Chain-mail fabric stiffens under confining pressure

چکیده
The mechanical properties of chain mail have been revisited. findings reveal that, under confining pressure, chain-mail-inspired materials can switch from pliable to stiff structures that outstanding load-bearing capacities. Pliable undergo a jamming transition.

Permeability of Fractured Media under Confining Pressure: A Simplified Model
An elastic-plastic model was developed to describe the deformation and permeability of fractured rocks under confining pressure. Elastic and elastic-plastic contact models were used in the model to analyze the deformations of a representative element containing a single fracture under various confining pressures. The present work utilized elements from contact mechanics and viscous flows to der...
متن کاملEIT-Based Fabric Pressure Sensing
This paper presents EIT-based fabric sensors that aim to provide a pressure mapping using the current carrying and voltage sensing electrodes attached to the boundary of the fabric patch. Pressure-induced shape change over the sensor area makes a change in the conductivity distribution which can be conveyed to the change of boundary current-voltage data. This boundary data is obtained through e...

Monte Carlo simulations of protein folding under confining potentials
We present a theoretical investigation of the folding of small proteins assisted by chaperones. We describe the proteins in the framework of an effective potential model which contains the Ramachandran angles as degrees of freedom. The cage of chaperonins is modeled by an external confining potential which is also able to take into account hydrophobic and hydrophilic effects inside the cavity. ...
متن کاملAnalysis of Woven Fabric Strengths: Prediction of Fabric Strength under Uniaxial and Biaxial Extensions
This study of woven fabric strength begins by focusing on the effects of the crossing points, where warp and weft yarns interlace with each other to form a fabric, towards the ultimate fabric tensile strength. When a fabric is under uniaxial or biaxial tension, the yarn-yarn interactions at the crossing points are found to consist of two components, a pressure-independent adhesive component and...
